Project Space: Endless Editions

Endless Editions
June 14-August 19, 2017

Please join us Wednesday, June 14, 6-8pm, for the opening of Endless Edition’s residency at 80WSE, and Becky Beasley solo exhibition A Gentle Man. Wednesday, June 21, 7-9pm, Endless Editions will host an event featuring a performance by Zebadiah Keneally and music by Rudy Shepherd. This event will coincide with the opening of I ♥ John Giorno, 5-8pm, the multi-part exhibition presented across thirteen venues around Manhattan including our Washington Square Windows and Broadway Windows.

Utilizing 80WSE’s Project Space as their temporary publishing studio, Endless Editions will serve as the main printer for Becky Beasley’s accompanying exhibition publication, thus continuing the conversation of the short story format that A Gentle Man explores. In maintaining their efforts of working with artists and other art organizations, the publishing and curatorial initiative will collaborate with artist’s Rudy Shepherd and Kameelah Janan Rasheed as well as artists working in the Middle East with Fully Booked, the premier art book fair in the United Arab Emirates. Endless Edition’s space at 80WSE will function as a fully working Printing Shop fully equipped with their Risograph, a stencil printer designed for high-volume photocopying, duplicating, and printing. While getting a glimpse into the interworking of an alternative run publishing initiative, visitors are welcome to come into the space to see publications and artist’s books from Endless Editions extensive archive.

Established in 2014, Endless Editions is a publishing and curatorial initiative dedicated to conceptualizing, producing, and disseminating works by emerging artists who have been historically underrepresented in the art world. In just three years, they have published over fifty titles by sixty artists in both their Risograph print studio at the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop in Manhattan and their studio within the Gateway Project Spaces in Newark, New Jersey. Many of their projects are now held in the libraries of, MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the NYPL. Endless Editions has organized twenty exhibitions, established a residency program, and held educational seminars at museums throughout New York and in Stockholm.

Inspired by Bernard Malamud’s short story Spring Rain (1942), Becky Beasley’s A Gentle Man is a video installation with décor that transforms the gallery’s five rooms into a journey from day to night. This newly commissioned four-part video portrait of an imaginary man presents a series of brief encounters and proposes their transformative potential as choices. A Gentle Man is on view June 14 through August 19 in 80WSE’s main gallery space, opening reception June 14, 6-8pm.

Ugo Rondinone: I ♥ John Giorno is a sprawling, multi-part exhibition that presents the extraordinary life and work of the poet, artist, activist and muse, John Giorno. Encompassing thirteen venues around Manhattan and featuring paintings, films, sound installations, drawings, archival presentations and video environment, this retrospective includes work both by Giorno himself, as well as work that he has inspired. I ♥ John Giorno is on view June 22 through August 20 at 80WSE’s Washington Square Windows and Broadway Windows.
