“Nobody died that year,” begins Renata Adler’s novel Speedboat. There is an advantage that comes along with acknowledging the best through the worst. That ethos is what the pieces in this show share. The works are a mordant mixture: separate in approaches, they shade in the enjoyable gaps left from a shared communal experience. We all have problems – nothing is ever perfect. Let’s take this beginning as more than a false start. Nobody Died That Year is a paean to optimism; a chorus of confidence sang through dark, light, funny, and serious work.
